Combat & Damage Rules

Damage

  • Two forms of damage exist in this game: physical and energy..
    1. Physical damage (PHY) is determined by the attacker's Strength (STR) value, modified by either the Rank of the weapon (wRank) being used or 1/2 of the attacker's Ki Control (KIC) value if unarmed, rounded down.
      • PHY = STR + ( wRank or KIC/2 )
    2. Energy damage (NRG) is damage from either ki-based attacks or magic-based attacks. It is determined by the attacker's Ki Control (KIC) value, modified by the Rank of the attack being used.

Damage Resistance

  • A character's Damage Resistance is the amount of damage subtracted from all attacks made against him, regardless of the source of the damage. The amount subtracted is determined by the character's Endurance (END) value and 1/2 of the relevant damage statistic (STR for PHY, KIC for NRG), rounded down.

    43445566
    54556677
    65667788
    76778899
  • For instance, a character with an END of 4 and a Ki Control of 3 reduces all energy/magic damage by 4 damage. Any attack of that kind must deal at least 5 damage for the character to be affected.

Defense

  • A character's Defense defines his ability to block, dodge, or deflect attacks made against him. Defense comes in two flavors: active and passive.
    1. Passive Defense (pDEF): this represents a character's ability to block, dodge, or deflect any attack without any preparation. A character's passive defense is always in affect and requires no preparation for a reaction. It is determined solely by his Perception (PER) score and cannot be modified.
      • pDEF = PER
    2. Active Defense (aDEF): the character's active defense represents his ability to block, dodge, or deflect an attack that he is prepared for. While using his active defense, he cannot take other actions; the character is focused on his opponent's attack. Like passive defense, active defense is determined by his Perception (PER) score, but he also adds the appropriate stat for the type of damage.
      • aDEF = PER + (STR or KIC)
